Let's Open Our Eyes and Be Real

If you've ever had the honor and privilege of hosting a Bible study group in your home then you've been blessed.  Hosting a six week study entitled "One Month To Live" has been an eye opening study.  When we go over the questions and discuss them as a group you must be willing to be real.  That means to stop pretending that everything is fine.  There are times and circumstances in our lives that aren't fine.  When God gives you Christian friends and fellow Christians to help and encourage you then maybe He wants you to be real and stop pretending that everything is fine.

Have you ever heard the old saying. "You don't get old by being a fool?"  If you pray for wisdom and keep repeating the same old same old, or stay in the same mind set that everything is fine when it's not then how is God going to change your circumstance?  Yes He will get you through what you are going through, but there comes a time when eventually we've got to be real with those closest to us that God has placed in our lives.  In this study. "One Month To Live" there are some eye opening questions.  This weeks lesson is titled, "Leave Boldly."  One of the questions asks, "In what area of your life do you hope to make the most impact?"  If it's your testimony then share your faith more.  If it's you child or children then do what is best for them and not yourself.  If it's that difficult circumstance or trial you're in then maybe just maybe God wants you to be obedient in changing it. God doesn't expect us to pretend like everything is normal or fine when it's not.  Satan is the author of lies.  He's the one who keeps us in bondage and filling us with the falsehood that if we stay in a trial long enough that we can fix it by ourselves.  Nothing is farther from the truth.  Only God can change a horrible trial...but we have to let Him and step out on faith to guide us.  We don't continue to try and fix it ourself. 

I recently heard that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results.  If you are listening to God He will answer you in the midst of your difficult problem.  Sometimes when He answers we have to be willing to open our eyes and be real with those He places around us.  Most importantly we have to be real with Him and be obedient to what He tells us in our gut!

Going on a Mission

How Would You Introduce Jesus?

Have you ever thought about how you would introduce Jesus to a large crowd?   Well, I never thought much about this either till I got the email of Steve Harvey doing just that.  For whatever reason (his comic career has not always been considered Christian humor, but hear him out, he has obviously gone through a life changing God redeeming moment so I will not judge the brother)  Steve put this in one of his shows as an act of obedience or just because, I don't know why, I just know that it moves me.   Sometimes I start my day by watching this, it gets me all fired up and ready to tackle my day.  I hope you enjoy!

Oh Happy Day!

Oh Happy Day!  I stumbled upon an old Daily Word book I saved from 1997?  What up with that?  I sat down to read the entire little 45 page booklet and remembered why I saved the little life giving book.   For one, Phyllis Diller was the main introduction and for any of you old enough to remember her? that might have been one of the reasons this little word spreader was saved and traveled in a box 4999 miles to where I live today.  She was too funny back in the day.   For the next few days or weeks I plan on sharing some of the information in the pages of my old and worn out booklet, I was struck by how old the messages were but how the meaning never changes.  The word is still the word.  It's been the word for thousands of years.   Word up.

I Heard The Voice Of God This Morning

I really did hear the voice of God this morning.  He spoke to me via my 82 year old Mother.  My Dementia-Alzheimer's Mother.   My Rock, still my Mama rock, even with her disease.  I know that within the next 5 min. after our conversation she did not even remember my call.   I called her Nursing Home just to say Hi and to inquire how she was feeling today........She instinctively knew (GOD) my day was full of "I can't take it anymore" I need my Mama.

I had stopped making those type of phone calls awhile ago.  Mom's full blown Alzheimer's kept me from calling her like the old days, just to have my Mama console me, listen to me, make me feel ok again, make me feel loved.  So Loved. I am her baby and I will always be her baby.  Amen.   As most of you know when a person is going down the yellow brick road into Dementia, phone calls don't always go the way you want them too.  Sometimes its just to painful to make that call.  Your voice is not recognized by your own Mother some of the time and the other times she is on a verbal tangent that Freud could not even follow.

God is good, no he is just flat out awesome. Because of Him I may call her everyday now!  You see he just proved to me that he still enjoys working miracles.   I could not have possibly been any lower today, Starbuck's, Willie Wonka, Winning Dancing with the Stars or a week at the Beverly Hills Hotel Spa could not have given me any happiness today.   I was a slug.  Not a slug from a self appointed low, but from a tremendous lack of any reciprocal love.   Verbal battering can kill.  Kill ya.  You may have a body left but you feel empty to the core, you feel the pain in your bone marrow, you hurt with every beat of your heart.   The pain makes you like the walking dead, you make steps but you feel no pulse.  I needed a body bag.   But I am redeemed!

Mom (GOD) said to me "Honey, I love you and no matter what you need, there is nothing to big for me that I can't handle for you."   "I can do anything you need me to do."  Mom's voice is just like Miss Melanie in Gone With the Wind, go back and read that again like she would!   Well, Rock On Mama.   She might as well have been saying to me you are worthy, you are good, you are my baby and nothing can ever keep me from loving you.  Back in the day, my Mama could move Heaven and Earth if I needed her too. Remind you of anyone?  They say that a Mother's love is the only thing that remotely comes close to the love God feels for his children.  I know that to be true, his name is Jonathon.

On December 14, 2009 it will be one year since she was admitted to a 24 hour a day care Nursing Home.  She does not know where she is but this morning she spoke to me as Mama, it was as if 20 years and been erased and I was a girl not almost 50 years old.   I took a risk and called my Mama this morning cause' I thought I was going to just die if I did not hear at least one kind word from someone, anyone who might love me.  This call could have gone another way, but during my prayer time earlier this morning I also reached out to God.  I asked him for a tiny piece of hope, just enough to get me buy another day.  I hate to be a cry baby, but who cares, some days this verbally battered child of God needs divine intervention.   I got mine today.  Praise Jesus.

If God wants to speak to me via my Mama then so be it.   I will call everyday, do you want the number?  I was so discouraged and broken hearted and on my "last leg" (Mother's term) I had no where to turn.   God heard my cry and how thoughtful of him to give me my Mother's love, her unconditional, Mt. Calvary size, I will stop at nothing to get to you my baby kind of love.   She is not able to mentally do this anymore but God worked through her to get me what I needed.   I got my miracle via the telephone with my Mama.  I cried and cried, but when the tears stopped I took my warm and fuzzy right back to my Heavenly Father.  He gets all the glory and praise.  I got a message of love from both of my parents this morning.   Call Home, get your love on.

How do we begin to say thank you?  You treated us like royalty.  You treated us as daughters of a King which we who know Jesus Christ as our personal Savior are.  To have your menfolk come and help cook for us as well as take care of the children was phenomenal.  This was an awesome act of servanthood.  We were so thankful for this.  We want to pass this on and challenge our own churches to do this.  This is pleasing to God when husbands and wives edify one another through serving the body of Christ.  The dinner was outstanding and delicious.  To name each of you who were there and responsible for such a terrific night is exactly what we would like to do.  So we lift you all as a unified body of believers to the throne and ask that you be blessed and protected.  We sincerely hope that you will invite us again.  The love offering was immeasurable in what it will do toward helping those in need that will be going through the doors at Branches Recovery Center in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.  They thank you as well as we do.  God Bless You sweet women and men of Bartow.  We love you all in Christ Jesus Our Risen Savior and Lord.  Sherry and Nina

Who Is - On Fire For Jesus Ministry?

This "On Fire for Jesus" partnership started 28 years ago when these two ladies met and became friends.  Neither one knew what God's plan was for them much less that they would end up together to serve the Lord in ministry.   Sherry is a wife of 33 years, mother & grandmother who lives in Middle Tennessee and has been a member of New Vision Baptist Church for over 20 years, a former Outstanding Young Educator of Tennessee and Professor at Middle Tennessee State University.   Sherry's testimony for Christ has been one of overcoming the early death of her Father and countless stories of near death illnesses within her family only to have Christ perform his loving miracles in her life.  Sherry's only son was sick or hospitalized 61 times in 60 months and her story of God's miracle of cancer survival is moving and will inspire each and every one of you.  Sherry's love of laughter and it's healing power will be most evident to you the minute you meet her.

Nina is also from Middle Tennessee but now lives with her husband and only son in Costa Rica where she works from home and home schools her son.   Nina is from a Christian home but has spent almost her entire life struggling to get back to the Lord and the open arms Jesus.  Nina's testimony is one of childhood trauma and abuse and how she is overcoming her battle with the enemy.  Her story will inspire anyone who has suffered from paralyzing fear or the pain of abuse and wants to see how the Lord can heal, restore hope and how you can mature in Christ to live a life full of forgiveness, love, and humor again.

Both of these sisters have an incredible love for Jesus, Gods Word and each other and when you "marry" that up with tender testimonies, outrageous humor and real life "props" they will make you laugh out loud.  They love to tell their stories, they love to minister to women in the body of Christ and to reach out to the lost every chance they get.  Each one of these sisters in Christ can stand alone and each has an abundant testimony to share with you, however, together they are simply red hot and ON FIRE FOR JESUS!
